How Flexalloy PVC Elastomers Outperform Standard PVC in Cable Insulation

Standard flexible PVC compounds are widely used in cable insulation and jacketing because they offer reliable electrical performance, flame retardancy, and cost efficiency. In many applications, they remain the appropriate material choice. Flexalloy® PVC elastomers are engineered to extend performance in areas where greater flexibility, mechanical durability, or temperature resistance is required.

Compared to conventional flexible PVC, Flexalloy® formulations provide enhanced elasticity and repeated-bend performance, making them well suited for cables subject to frequent movement, flexing, or handling. They also offer improved low-temperature flexibility and resistance to abrasion, oils, and harsh service conditions in certain grades. These characteristics can help reduce cracking, jacket damage, and installation challenges in more demanding environments.

Material selection ultimately depends on application requirements, regulatory considerations, and processing needs. For static installations or cost-sensitive designs, standard flexible PVC may be the optimal solution. For dynamic, high-flex, or harsh-environment cable constructions, Flexalloy® PVC elastomers can provide additional performance margins.
