Thermoplastic materials are widely used in building and construction applications because they offer a combination of durability, design flexibility, processability, and long service life. Depending on the formulation, thermoplastics can provide weather resistance, impact performance, aesthetic versatility, and consistent manufacturing performance across a wide range of interior and exterior building products.
Exterior building products are exposed to UV radiation, moisture, temperature fluctuations, and other environmental stresses throughout their service life. Custom polymer compounding allows manufacturers to tailor material properties such as weatherability, color retention, impact resistance, flexibility, and processing performance to meet the specific requirements of the application.
Both TPEs and traditional rubber materials can be used in sealing applications, but they offer different advantages. TPEs combine rubber-like flexibility with the processing benefits of thermoplastics, allowing them to be extruded, molded, and reprocessed using conventional thermoplastic manufacturing methods. Traditional rubber materials may offer performance advantages in certain applications, while TPEs are often selected for manufacturing efficiency, design flexibility, and ease of processing.
